After the beer, NoDa Brewing Company is all about our people. Whether they help make the beer, sell the beer or serve the beer, every person here is a vital part of our culture and makes what we do more enjoyable on a day-to-day basis. Without these people there is no NoDa Brewing, and we’d love for you to meet them. So now when you stop by you can call them by name.
Anthony Proctor Cellarman
Bart Roberts OG Funkmaster
Brian Schonder Brewer
Casey Ford Czar of Cleanliness
Anthony Proctor CellarmanAnthony, or “@Raindawg,” as the craft beer community affectionately knows him on Twitter, is a NC native, husband, stepfather, and homebrewer. You couldn’t meet a nicer guy in the world. He’s a fan of music ranging from Country & Western to Metal to Tom Waits. When he’s not hanging out at home reading, he spends his time helping out with productions of Chickspeare — his wife’s all-female Shakespeare company. He also enjoys spending time with his mutt, “Gossamer" who's a purebred goofball.
Bart Roberts OG FunkmasterThe mad scientist. Bart is probably best recognized when he has a microscope up to his face. When he’s not teaching yeast who’s boss, he’s an excellent cook, a gardener and jam band aficionado. He once brought in chili and shared it with everyone. It was magical. He also excels at being a twin.
Brian Schonder BrewerBrian is big into chemistry and biology. This doubles as a pick up line and a skill set. As a student, he was the co-founder of the UNCC Craft Beer Appreciation Club, a move that seriously made his parents rethink their tuition support. He is very tech savvy but refuses to help you with your computer. He is also proficient with a left-handed sonic screwdriver. Brian is originally from Virginia.
Casey Ford Czar of CleanlinessAfter beer, Casey considers himself an authority on pop culture. He alleges he was born and raised in Charlotte, like unicorns. Casey once spent Christmas in Florence, Italy and used to play the cello. He enjoys sci-fi, heavy metal music, UFC and is not fluent in Mandarin, nor does he have plans to be.
Chad Henderson Head Brewer, Owner
Eric Richardson Brewer
Jack Hargrove Packaging Professional
Marley Brew Dog
Chad Henderson Head Brewer, OwnerChad was (and still is) an amazing home brewer who won many awards at brew festivals as a member of Carolina Brewmasters. It’s where he and Suzie and Todd met and became good friends, eventually forming the core group that launched Noda Brewing. He’s the son of an Elvis Tribute Artist and left the medical industry to pursue his dream of being a brew master. Chad also once bench-pressed the entire brewery for nine repetitions.
Eric Richardson BrewerEric was raised a true Southern outdoorsman and gentleman. A 2015 graduate of Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts, he majored in the Beverage Program because “I always loved beer and thought that’s the direction I should go.” Eric once hiked half the Appalachian Trail and has probably spent more nights sleeping in the woods than in his bed. He plays the banjo and has two Bassett Hounds: “Blue” and “Peanut.” He’s originally from South Fulton, GA, is a whitewater kayaker, mountain biker, and scratch brolfer (golf that’s more beer than golf).
Jack Hargrove Packaging ProfessionalYou may not recognize Jack without his camera, but he does much more than videography. Like fighting bears and amateur pyrotechnics. Around the brewery he’s best known for his work creating many of our NoDable videos, but it should be noted that he also touches every can that goes to market during his hours working as a canning assistant. When you invariably see him around the taproom, be sure to ask him about his perfect record at Russian roulette.
Marley Brew DogThe VP of Delegation and Reclination, Marley’s office is located under Matt & Chad's desks. Marley enjoys being outdoors, lying in the sun and playing fetch. He also made his NoDable Series video debut in “Abbey Dabby Doo.” He is currently suing for “points,” related to merchandising and DVD sales.
Matt Virgil Brewery Manager
Todd Ford Owner
Matt Virgil Brewery ManagerMatt is originally from California but came to Charlotte when he was eight. He studied screenwriting in college and his screenplays for the NoDable seeries are frequently playing on YouTube. He is an excellent singer and plays guitar, ukulele, bass, and ultimate frisbee. In his spare time, Matt dresses up as Batman and protects the city of Charlotte.
Todd Ford OwnerWith deep roots in the Charlotte Homebrewers’ guild, Todd has always enjoyed the creativity and craft of brewing small batch beers. As a former pilot, he has travelled the world and once successfully bought an entire year’s worth of Christmas presents out of Sky Mall magazine. He’s allegedly a very talented guitar player, enjoys classic rock and loves dogs. Todd’s favorite color is Ramble on Red.
Charles Willett Numbers Cruncher
Dakota Brew Dog
Ivey Amburgey Ambassador of Buzz
Jenn Harrison Office Maestro
Charles Willett Numbers CruncherAround the brewery, Charles is known as "The Viking" because he was once stabbed by a deer and knows how to tame tiger cubs. He's also an ambidextrous juggler who can recite the alphabet backward, but we prefer to think of him as our go-to financial adviser. He has a long legacy of supporting the idea that clear is a color and would appreciate assistance from the people of the internet. Until he can prove this point, Charles will be working at the brewery to save up cash for a commercial flight into outer space.
Dakota Brew DogDakota graduated summa cum laude from the Advanced Institute of Canine Sunbathing. She enjoys a very full social life and closely monitors what every one is doing. She even takes part in the brewery tours sometimes because after all, in her mind, it is HER brewery and people come to visit her.
Ivey Amburgey Ambassador of BuzzSee a beer pun from us on the Internet? You have Ivey's (corny) sense of humor to thank for that, which can certainly be attributed to her father. She prides herself on being a Charlottean, and uses magnetic force to draw everyone to the Queen City (husband included). With a background in corporate and agency public relations, Ivey relishes in the fact that she can wear jeans and her nose ring at the office. She can be seen throughout the brewery with her phone in one hand and a Diet Coke in the other.
Jenn Harrison Office MaestroJenn earned her place at NoDa by winning a fight-your-way-in MMA tournament. One of her favorite cities is NYC because she loves going there with her architect husband. Her first concert was The Police. She remains a vegetarian at the moment but is very tempted by the barbecue on the food truck. At home she enjoys her family, her cranky 16-year old terrier, and her favorite color is sea foam green.
Leland Brew Dog
Mindy Stull Pint Pixie
Suzie Ford Owner, President
Leland Brew DogLeland is an alum of the Charlotte Humane Society where she was a standout high jumper. Her tail once knocked over 32 chess pieces in individual succession. Her hobbies include wood chewing, ear and nose nibbling and Sudoku. She lists Grizzly as her boyfriend, but Grizzly claims they are just casual. Leland has been with NoDa Brewing since Spring 2015 and is fluent in six languages.
Mindy Stull Pint PixieHailing from Statesville, NC, this pint pixie weighs about as much as a glass of beer. In fact, she’s too tiny to activate a car airbag. But don’t let this Modest Mouse fan fool you, she can still haul a keg and take some great Instagram selfies. What else should you know about this little lady? Well, she loves bottle shares, hates spoons, and her spirit animal is the unicorn.
Suzie Ford Owner, PresidentThe most liked woman in the ownership group, Suzie is a details-oriented free spirit. She is a proud mom, diet coke lover and general fan of Top 40 music. She once worked in motorsports marketing and is a vanilla ice fan. She is originally from California, and plays lady gaga entirely too loud. Suzie once turned left without using her indicator. But it never happened again.
Sales & Delivery
Andy Grimes Sales/Marketing
Bobby Dalzell Delivery Specialist
Brian Butler Delivery Specialist
Derek Murphy Sales/Marketing
Andy Grimes Sales/MarketingAndy worked his way up to NoDa brewing after being in the industry for some time. And while NBC is his soul mate, he still really loves his wife and three children. A jack-of-all-trades you can see him just about everywhere around the brewery and beyond. From the taproom to deliveries and sales he is always there to lend a hand and offer a smile. Originally from Michigan, he’s just an all around great guy. Even though he’s a Steeler’s fan.
Bobby Dalzell Delivery SpecialistBobby is quite the active guy with hobbies including soccer, snowboarding, guitar playing, and fly fishing. When he's not hitting the slopes or shredding chords, you can probably find him practicing his home brewing. He's also exceptional at rubbing his belly and patting his head SIMULTANEOUSLY! This remarkable gift comes from his love of eating veggies. If you see Bobby on the road, peas don't kale his vibe.
Brian Butler Delivery SpecialistBrian Butler is a Northern Virginia native and is currently in the witness protection program. He's worked in the beer business for half a decade and helps out in several capacities at the brewery. He is a LA Rams and Dodgers fan that enjoys eighties music and old school Nintendo. His favorite beer is Ramble on Red, and he used to be a Jaegermeister fan. But not anymore.
Derek Murphy Sales/MarketingDerek is always around to help at the brewery, which makes him very popular. He is often seen changing the station to nineties music, and enjoys the lyrical stylings of Mister Dave Matthews. His first job was a paperboy, which has resulted in having excellent throwing skills, but to this day, he still dreads Sundays and gets phantom back pains. Derek refused to answer what his favorite color was because it was “too personal.”
Dwight Grassel Delivery Specialist/Tour Guide
Greg McIlvaine Delivery Specialist
Jesse Muñoz Sales/Marketing
Lindsay Sprick Her Hopness
Dwight Grassel Delivery Specialist/Tour GuideDwight is from Mansfield, Ohio and loves woodworking, cooking, and dogs. He claims that not a whole lot embarrasses him, but he does know which end of the hammer to grab. Dwight's favorite movie is Shawshank Redemption, and he likes working at NoDa because of the family atmosphere. He also alleges that he was once given 25% of something, but we refuses to say what it is.
Greg McIlvaine Delivery SpecialistLike many of the gentlemen strutting about the brewery, Greg McIlvaine has a beard, wears flannel, and can fell a tree in one swoop. This Eagle Scout turned furniture designer/gardener enjoys introducing new people to craft beer so working as a Delivery Specialist at NoDa Brewing is a perfect fit. Greg’s main craft beer influencers include his dad, a long time local brewery supporter, and his wife who introduced him to his favorite style — the India Pale.
Jesse Muñoz Sales/MarketingHaving a talent for discerning the flavors and aromas that make NoDa brews unique is a necessary skill for any of our employees, and Jesse brings a special aptitude for such things. In fact, as a certified sommelier, he uses his expertise to host some of the best beer dinners Charlotte has to offer. He's also passionate about working with people who believe in what they're doing. One day he hopes to retire early and live on a golf course, but until then, we'll keep him.
Lindsay Sprick Her HopnessWhen she isn't making beautiful baked goods, reading, or hanging out with her two Australian shepherds, Lindsay is representing NoDa around town. She decided to pursue a career in craft beer after concluding that a profession in law wasn't for her. Now, she has determined that the best part of working in the craft beer industry is the family community.
Tyler Norris Delivery Manager
Tyler Norris Delivery ManagerOriginally from Winston-Salem, Mr. Norris is a Charlotte Hounds and Buffalo Bills fan. He enjoys comic books, movies and great beer. Tyler studied theology at Belmont Abbey for what we assume was an elaborate and committed effort to gain direct access to Trappist Beers.
Adam Hendrickson Pint Pusher
Brian Nadolny Tour Guide & Beer Slinger
Caitlyn Higgins BEER SLINGER
Carla Garrison-Mattos Slinger of Pints and Paint
Adam Hendrickson Pint PusherAdam has had more Facebook comments liked than anyone in North America. He shaves regularly and has bought produce on several occasions, for eating. Er reist gerne nach Berlin. And he is a big time Carolina Panthers fan, but he does not bleed teal because that would pretty much indicate some kind of oxygen deficiency in his blood.
Brian Nadolny Tour Guide & Beer SlingerHailing from Buffalo, NY, Brian is a hockey enthusiast, aspiring homebrewer, and international traveler (over 30 countries). In fact, his love of travel lead him to major in Geography, and to date, he still enjoys all things about maps. One day, he hopes to create international tours focused around beer, but for the time being, he's living out his dream as a brewery tour guide and pop music aficionado.
Caitlyn Higgins BEER SLINGERThis Kansas native tried clicking her ruby red slippers to get back home, and they brought her straight to us. If Caitlyn isn’t pouring you a beer, she’s probably putting together an awesome costume or listening to Jimi Hendrix. She’s best known for her killer karaoke but hopes to leave the lime light and one day own a bed and breakfast in the mountains.
Carla Garrison-Mattos Slinger of Pints and PaintCarla is married with two dogs and proudly sports an "I Love My Wife" bumper sticker. Of course, you may not want to be a passenger in her car given her enthusiasm for road rage. She's an adept face contortionist and Cher impersonator. She's also the world champion of Rocky trivia. When she's not pouring you a beer, she's probably painting one of her beautiful murals on the wall of a local business.
Courtney-Lee Burrows PINT PUSHER
Erica Cline Beer Slinger
Grizzly Brew Dog
Hank Hanegraaff Brewrista
Courtney-Lee Burrows PINT PUSHERCourtney's hobbies include practicing yoga, kissing dogs, and eating Vietnamese food. She also loves being near the water and aspires to become a beach bum. At the brewery, you'll find her managing the tap room, pouring beer, and listening to the Heart radio station.
Erica Cline Beer SlingerBesides being a favorite tap master, Erica is the typographer who does the chalkboard and created some of the type on this very site. She is one of the original employees and truly creates a good time out of whatever she is doing. She is a hiker and art lover and once almost said something mean, but then said something really nice instead. Erica was born in Illinois.
Grizzly Brew DogGrizzly is the two-time winner of the NoDa most-fluffy award and loves to have his belly rubbed. He loves to be outside and go on walks and feels very strongly that he deserves treats. When he rides in the car Grizzly loves to sit on the middle console so he can see everything around him.
Hank Hanegraaff BrewristaHank Hanegraaff has ten brothers and sisters and is the second in his family to join NoDa Brewing. His favorite beer is Jam Session and he is musically inclined to the Weepies and Modest Mouse. He was a member of the Baylor Golf Team and majored in Philosophy. He is a student of humanism, prefers tendencies inquisitive and realistic and is Pascalian in his appreciation of our ability to coexist harmoniously but still have individual convictions . And drinks beer y’all.
Jessica McClain Queen of Hospitality
Justin Mulcahy Tour Guide
Litty Letteri Pint Pusher
Mandi Matthews Beer Slinging Manager
Jessica McClain Queen of HospitalityJessica is a laugher. And a dancer. And a singer. You might spot her at a music festival or with her friends, most likely doing "The Carlton". She once auditioned for the Moscow Royal Ballet, but she ran into a 12-foot Nutcracker statue, creating a set-demolishing, domino chain effect that eventually upended one of the onion domes off St. Basil’s Cathedral.
Justin Mulcahy Tour GuideJustin's greatest achievement was losing an arm wrestling match to Angela Landsbury, and since then, he has been playing, writing, and/or performing music and comedy. He also freelances as a fashion model and once sang in a punk rock band. However, other files regarding his special talents have been redacted. Justin is putting his Physics and Engineering studies to good use as a tour guide where he is able to give someone a ten minute speech about chemical engineering and they can't walk away. He also enjoys cooking.
Litty Letteri Pint PusherWhile Litty likes napping with her dog, she does not enjoy wearing pants. When she's not napping, she's saving up for a motorcycle to make driving around Charlotte more fun. Her most embarrassing moment includes, but is not limited to, spilling a whole bottle of red wine on a table of six people. But this beer goddess promises not to spill one drop of your NoDa brew.
Mandi Matthews Beer Slinging ManagerBesides being a talented pint pourer and conversationalist, Mandi Pants is a talented crafter you might recognize from the NoDa Eclectic Market. There you can find her punch card picture creations for sale. She likes all kinds of music but her favorite concert was Bjork, on Coney Island in 2002. She has a huge crush on her husband, John and adores her doberman, Knox.
Will Vega Adjunct Professor of Pint Pushing
Will Vega Adjunct Professor of Pint PushingWill's hometown is San Diego, CA, and he can make an origami Pegasus so he is statistically cooler than everyone else. Owed to his love of cardigans and his propensity to call-it-a-night earlier than most, his friends call him “Gramps." He enjoys writing, illustration, board games, and hiking with his 2 dogs and wife. Will hopes to one day publish a comic book, novel, or trading card and/or board game. Or all three, ideally.
The NoDa Story
NoDa Brewing Company is a homegrown Charlotte brew house located in (and named after) the city’s most bohemian and artistic neighborhood—NoDa, named after North Davidson Street.
Our approach is to handcraft small-batch beers with a dedication to quality and variety. Our size and attitude allow us to brew unique and artistic recipes as well as our renditions of classic varieties such as Stouts, Witbiers, and Winter Warmers. We are actually the only brewery in town with deep roots in the homebrewing scene. After winning numerous homebrew competitions, by popular demand, we took our beer to the general public. From our taproom to our kegs to our cans we hope you taste and enjoy the commitment, detail and love we put into every last drop of our NoDa beers.
